“The Coast Guard has long been known as the armed service that gets more done for less”(Coble Quotes”). This quote said by Howard Coble discusses the efficiency and hard work of the U.S Coast Guard. The USCG is part of the Department of Homeland Security. Enlisted personnel typically participate in,or support, military operations such as combat or humanitarian and disaster relief. They also operate and maintain vessels such as boats, ships and aircraft. The U.S Coast Guard is a fulfilling career choice that greatly benefits society, helps build strong character, and provides mental and physical challenges. For example, the Coast Guard benefits society in many ways. It's the Coast Guards’ job to protect the U.S Coasts and oversee national waters. They protect the country from threats such as piracy, smuggling and boat theft. They also provide humanitarian and disaster relief where it is needed and aid or rescue …show more content…

All members go through basic training. This includes weapons training and team building. Enlistees participate in rigorous physical exercise designed to improve strength and endurance. The Coast Guard also has opportunities for promotion for personnel. Enlisted personnel can be promoted to higher ranks and pay or become specialized warrant officers. All these examples will help build strong character for an enlistee. Lastly, the Coast Guard can provide many physical and mental challenges that can help one build a strong mind and body. For example, members must be physically fit to participate in, or support, combat missions that may be difficult or dangerous, and mentally fit to be able to handle stressful situations that can occur during military operations. They are always ready to risk their lives to protect others. Members must also be flexible and prepared to be transferred between bases and facilities. Members move regularly for training and job
