The goal of every company is to sell their product to a consumer in order to make money. They can do this in a variety of different ways, but many times have the same starting point: advertising. These companies will do anything and everything to get their products into the lives of everyday consumers. Whether the product will end up being in everyone’s life or not does not matter, but the publicity of the company will reach them through the advertisements. The testosterone of the men may get the better of them, forcing them to take a closer look. Women may see from a far an ideal body type only to realize that it is golf clubs. Cobra Golf put this advertisement of their golf clubs in the shape of a bikini, knowing that one of the things Sports Illustrated is most known for is the Swimsuit Issue. This could make the audience take a second look to make sure what they are reading is what it actually is. Time and time again it has been said that “sex sells”, and this is another example of that. It seems no matter what a company is trying to sell, giving it some sort of sexual undertone will help it sell. Cobra Golf uses a small amount of words to get their point across. This not only adds to the simplistic theme of the overall advertisement, but it also makes the consumer really zero in on what they are saying. They are using puns that connect with the image of the golf clubs. By only having “Yes, they’re real” in large, bold font, the reader may want to read the rest to figure out what makes the golf clubs real.
