COBRANET - OVERVIEW AND ARCHITECTURE CobraNet is an amalgamation of software, network protocol and hardware which entitles the distribution of various channels of real time, high quality digital audio over the Ethernet network. Cobranet operates at the 2nd OSI layer i.e. Data link layer.CobraNet was designed to ensure numerous audio channels to be transmitted over Ethernet technology .It is basically a collection of CobraNet interface and a network protocol. It enables the transport of high quality, real time digital audio over a standard Ethernet infrastructure. As we know Ethernet is not an asynchronous data delivery system. Ethernet is a first come, first served and best effort system, It also doesn’t guarantee delivery of data. But in the other hand CobraNet is an isochronous data delivery system. CobraNet combines with Ethernet to do task which Ethernet normally doesn’t do. So these additions to Ethernet provides sample clock distribution, isochronous data transport, and a vehicle for the transport of control and data monitoring . CobraNet interface is made up of main CobraNet hardware and software …show more content…
The sampling rates supported ranges from 750 Hz to 48 kHz which are generated by clock present on the CobraNet interface. We can also use external clock for this purpose. The beat packet consists of this timing information .This packets are smaller in size around 100 bytes. The delay should not exceed 400 microseconds because it will loose the packets. Until the release of low latency modes in 2002, the isochronous cycle interval was 1.33ms, with latency four times that, at 5.33ms. Low latency mode supports shorter isochronous intervals of 0.66ms and 0.33ms yielding audio latency of 2.66ms and 1.33ms, respectively. These latency figures are affected by the large amount of buffering present within CobraNet
