The world, medical field especially, is constantly evolving with the old ideas being replaced by new revelations. Medical technology is solely dependent upon innovation and has saved millions of lives (“Medical Technology”). Thanks to technology, doctors are able to perform miracles daily, and the proof is in the lives of the patients. Eucomed states, “Innovation in medical technology improves peoples’ lives, and brings the benefits of treatment to individuals whose conditions may previously have been difficult or impossible to treat” (“How Important is Innovation”). One medical innovation that was precisely the factor between life and death was the artificial heart also known as the Jarvik heart. In 1982, the inventor of the first permanent …show more content…

The cochlear implant provides this for patients who otherwise lacked the ability to hear. It also restores the quality of life to such patients. “A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which make sounds louder, cochlear implants do the work of damaged parts of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain” (“Cochlear Implants and Cochlear Implant Technology”). Dr. William F. House is accredited with the creation of the cochlear implant in 1961 (Woo). This device is very technologically advanced and consists of several different parts. The implant requires an outer and inner part (“Cochlear Implants”, Hearing Loss Association of America). The inner part is placed behind the ear surgically and a wire is placed in the internal ear (“Cochlear Implants”, Hearing Loss Association of America). The outer part is connected to the internal by an outer magnetic disk and looks like a hearing aid placed behind the ear (“Cochlear Implant”, Hearing Loss Association of America). More than 1,000 people received cochlear implants devices from 1972 to the mid-1980s including several hundred children (“Cochlear Implants”, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). The cochlear implant has already transformed countess lives and still persists to do so. The Hearing Loss Association of America …show more content…

The insulin pump is a transportable contraption connected to the body that releases consistent supply of speedy or brief acting insulin from a tube inserted into the skin (“Insulin Pumps”). “The first prototype of a 'pump' that delivered glucagon as well as insulin was similar to a backpack and was developed by Dr. Arnold Kadish” (“Insulin Pumps”). Since the first insulin pump, the pump has evolved into a device that is able to fit in one’s pocket and has become more sophisticated. About 1 in 1,000 diabetics wear an insulin pump. (“Insulin Pumps”). Since the first insulin pump, the treatment for diabetes is transforming into a much simpler
