Anika Kesiraju Period 2 May 26, 2024 Cold War Essay During WW1, our 28th President Woodrow Wilson said, “This is a war to end all wars.” Little did he know that there would be two more wars, one of which was the Cold War. The Cold War was a war that did not include any fighting. WW2 had just ended, and the Soviet Union, being a communist country, was trying to spread communism throughout Europe, while the United States, being a capitalist country, was trying to contain the communism that they were trying to spread, which ended up causing a lot of tension between the two countries. The Truman Doctrine ended up evolving into the Marshall Plan, The Truman Doctrine ended up evolving into the Marshall Plan and according to history.state.gov the Marshall Plan, “issued a call for a comprehensive program to rebuild Europe.” This plan ended up giving a total of 12 billion dollars to Greece and Turkey to help aid them and to help them not fall under communism. The money that the United States gave to Greece and Turkey was to show that they were willing to help them when they were in trouble and that they should stay a democratic country so all the people have freedom and not become communists and be ruled by one ruler.
