Cold War Foreign Policy Essay

The Cold War was concentrated in the field of ideology and policy. Soviet propagandists blamed American imperialism in the preparations for a Third world war, claims to world domination, and in suppression of national liberation movements, gangsters in world politics. In response the USA charged with suppressing the personal liberties, tyranny, mass repressions, trying to foment world revolution. American diplomats were brought up on hatred and contempt for the Soviet Union; the Soviet diplomats demonstrated anti-American beliefs. War of media has been a central part of the Cold War. The foreign policy of the United States has always been closely connected with the ideology, that’s why the foreign policy decisions have been often committed

American ideologues determined the United States as a nation of “human progress”. Racial hierarchy developed in the 19th century, puts the white people on the highest stage, yellow and red-on the stage below, black-on the bottom one. But there was a hierarchy among whites. The Anglo-Saxons took the first place, followed by Germans, Slavs, and the Jews. All these features of the American ideology were widely used in the US foreign policy after the Second World War. According to American theorists, "greatness" of American foreign policy was described in the need to get hegemon in world politics. The United States sought to marginalize England and France in world politics. The US planned to push these countries back from major sources of raw materials, the strategically important items and open their colonies as a market for the US goods and services. Therefore, the Cold War was an acute struggle not between ideologues, but between competitors. The Second World War has shown that competition can lead to irreconcilable differences and lead to wars, while the ideological differences can be resolved
