Colin Kaepernick has been sitting during the National Anthem ever since football season started. Many people have been following Kaepernick's example. However, one coach is going to punish players who decide to sit during the National Anthem. He stated that if he catches any of his players sitting down during the National Anthem, then they will have to sit down for the entire game.
As the melody of the national anthem fills the stadium on a Sunday night, the fans once there to support the NFL, neglect the game entirely, as they eagerly await the decisions of the players to either kneel or stand while the anthem plays. Sparked by the initial protest made by Colin Kaepernick, multiple players have “taken a knee” during the national anthem as a means of peaceful protest. Through her open letter addressed to the NFL, Taya Kyle utilizes repetition, rhetorical questioning, and a brief narrative in order to convey how the NFL and the protests have divided America. Throughout her letter, Kyle frequently employs repetition as means of stressing the responsibility the NFL and football had in America.
Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San-Francisco 49ers, chose not to stand for the National Anthem at a recent National Football League game. Instead, he decided to express his unhappiness with the way African Americans are being treated by police, by kneeling to the ground. This was his form of protest and attempt to convey his message about how he felt. Kaepernick does have the right to not stand for the National Anthem, however, it is disrespectful. People fight for our freedom, so why disrespect those men and women and an NFL game was not the right time or place to hold his protest.
Or teams, like the Indianapolis Colts, have released statements claiming that when they are kneeling, they have no intention of disrespecting the military, they only want to “speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.” The teams and players that are kneeling and what they are protesting is an example of conflict theory. The players claim that there is racial injustice in America and this is an example of social inequality, which the conflict theory puts emphasis on. I 'm really rather cynical about Kaepernick 's protest. I think this has more to do with him wanting to be released from his contract with the 49ers than any fight for social justice. The backstory here is that in 2014 Kaep signed a huge long term contract with the 49ers to stay on as quarterback. The understanding was that the 49ers would try to keep the existing team intact.
For every 1,000 people killed by police, only one officer is convicted of a crime. In “MLK Freedom Rides Speech” MLK argues that we should always use peaceful methods to have change. In contrast, in “By Any Means Necessary” Malcolm X argues we should use peaceful methods but if violence is used upon us we should also fight back with violence. Indeed, some argue that if we are using peaceful methods and violence is being used upon us we should fight back with violence while others believe we should fight back with peace.

Many people do not understand that police use this tactic for their own protection, but they do know that at times they use it when they do not need to. In the case like Eric Gardner in New York, use of force was required because he did not want to be handcuffed and there was a superior comparison physically to the cops. According to the magazine when should cops use force it states, “once things get physical, officers have little choice but to jump in as quickly as possible (Moskos, 2014).” The use of force can be judged proportionally by what happens before the act because if officers allow people to get physically, it will not only put the officer in danger, but also those around. Eventually, there are other strategies to use rather than the use of force.
These people have a passion for what they are protesting for, and the fight for rights will never die off until the black people of America have the equal rights and respect as a white man. Just like king said, “And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the negro is granted his citizenship rights.” The way he states his idea of unrest of the nation till rights are granted really puts an urgency into his ideas, and makes them seem as they are, which is the most important issue in the nation. This idea also develops his central idea in a deep way that says he wants everlasting equality, and there will be an everlasting fight until rights are granted. This really persuades his audience to realize that his idea he is putting in the reader 's head is really the best choice for the nation, and says that America will continue to be fair and equal, because there will be nothing unjust or unfair to fight about.
I think authority and strict police encounters are a great thing that helps offenders realize the consequences of their actions. Sometimes the only way to get an offender under control is to use unarmed physical force or force using non-lethal weapons. Every day, police officers encounter countless hours of training to defuse situations that can be violent. In Philadelphia, every officer gets 40 hours of this reality training to learn tactics other than lethal force…even when suspects are armed and dangerous (PBS, 2016).
