Did you know an African-American man, was gunned down and killed in front of his family? The man was killed by a white police officer. Many citizens have protested against the racist brutality, and some have gotten arrested. One day, 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick has taken a knee to protest against the racial injustice in the U.S. . Doing so, has caused a massive uproar. Is Kaepernick in the right or wrong to take a knee during the National Anthem? Kaepernick has been sitting or taking a knee, for the whole football season. He is protesting against the racist police brutality in the U.S. . It has sparked a great debate. Many fans and other athletes have also joined to protest with Kaepernick during the National Anthem. This national debate has reached it’s way to the White House. Kaepernick is standing up for his rights. Many army veterans have fought for freedom. Obama is supporting Kaepernick’s protest. Kaepernick’s teammate Eric Reid has joined him to protest. Fans and other athletes have also joined as one, to protest with Kaepernick. One of the many athletes, was soccer player Megan Rapinoe. She has also taken a knee during the National Anthem. Kaepernick isn’t the first athlete to protest racial injustice. In 1968 olympic runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos, held up the “ Black Fist of Power ”. “ There’s plenty of ways that you can send a message in a peaceful manner, that doesn’t involve being disrespectful to the sacred flag “, said Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints. Kaepernick taking a knee is the most peaceful way to protest. He’s not disrespecting the flag. He’s defending his rights, something many people still fight for
