Science is a subject where the more you learn, the more you realize how much you don’t know. New findings and discoveries in science are always forthcoming, which drives my inquisitive nature. I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor; however, more recently, I have been attracted to becoming a biochemist. Due to my enrollment in both Advanced Placement Biology and Advanced Placement Chemistry, I have developed a passion for both subjects. I plan to attend college, and after graduation, pursue either medical school or a graduate degree in biochemistry. I would love to take part in this program to gain invaluable laboratory experience while simultaneously exploring my personal interests in the science field. Cancer is a such a complicated disease; despite decades of research, there still is so much that is unknown. I find the complexity of the disease intriguing; how just one simple variation in DNA can cause a catastrophe in a human body. Upon hearing about this …show more content…
I also have attended the NCI Lecture Series, which has only supplemented to my knowledge of cancer research. It has also given me the opportunity to meet some of the researchers at NCI, and it’s fascinating hearing about their jobs and what they do in their laboratory. I am also involved with iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machines), which is a science club that explores the use of synthetic biology to solve problems. This club has opened my eyes to the possibilities of synthetic biology and the potential it has. In my free time, I also tutor fellow high schoolers in math and chemistry. I have also played piano for the past 9 years, which is one of my greatest achievements. Its longevity has always been a constant in my life and it serves as a reminder of my determination. Years of practicing and performing has taught me diligence and dedication, two qualities that I pride myself
