With today’s workforce having an increase in the demands for a higher education it is now set as a requirement in most jobs. I do not want to fall short on taking advantage of the opportunities thrown at me. I always like to think ahead for what the future has in hold for me. I like to set goals and work hard on achieving them because once I’ve met my goal I like the feeling of satisfaction and the motivation to start a new one. I believe the Elgin High School Gifted and Talented Academy would be a suitable place for me because being intelligent is not enough but rather developing and discovering a growth mindset is. I am convinced that this program will offer me the capabilities of learning to my fullest potential. Although I might encounter tough challenges along the way I know I can embrace them with my determination, perseverance and encouragement. Throughout the years I’ve always had the interest on taking higher level classes and expanding my knowledge. It all started in elementary school, whenever my classmates and I would take tests and I would rank higher I would feel so proud of myself. I never wanted my grades to decrease. I decided to take on the challenge because I knew that if didn’t, long the road I would’ve regret it. I like being independent because I was taught to take responsibility for my actions. When it comes to homework most of the times I don’t have much help, since my parents never attended college I cannot rely on them when I am struggling. I put a lot of pressure on myself because I don’t want to disappoint my family, they have high expectations for me. For my parents migrating to a new country and adjusting to the new culture was tough, but they were in search for a better future.
