My aspiration to pursue a Ph.D. at the Department of education in Bath University stems from several reasons. Firstly, I have always been passionate about teaching since a young age. Teaching has always appealed to me because I believe that teachers can greatly influence their students. Indeed, I personally had the privilege to be taught by inspirational teachers who were committed to motivating their students and tap into their potential. These teachers acted as role models and inspired me to become a teacher. When I started my teaching experience at ULC School in 2016, I was committed to motivating my students and positively impact them. However, I realized that generating and sustaining students’ motivation are not always an easy task. More specifically, I noticed that many of my former students, despite their initial enthusiasm and positive attitude towards the language, were unwilling to communicate in English. I envision myself as a university lecturer and researcher. Thus, my doctoral studies would pave the way to attain this goal. Indeed, I will harness my research skills and enlarge my knowledge. This, in turn, will enable me to conduct future studies pertaining to the field of education. Additionally, getting a position in academia will enable me not only to teach and inspire students but also to serve as a mentor to EFL teachers. It is worth mentioning that currently there is not enough emphasis on the psychological and motivational aspects of foreign language learning in Algerian EFL teachers’ training. Therefore, I would like to participate in the training of EFL teachers in my home-country to share the knowledge and the expertise which I will gain throughout my Ph.D. and contribute to the betterment of EFL
