In order to ensure the future of our country, we have to ensure every child is given a quality education. I want to be a part of closing the achievement gap in today’s schools. The Educational Leadership program at Western Kentucky University is going to train me to be the most effective leader and educator I can be. With my training and passion for teaching, I can succeed as a teacher in any classroom. However, I want to make a bigger difference. I want to provide thousands of kids with a quality education, not just the 24 students in my classroom.

Last year I completed the rigorous Kentucky Teacher Internship Program while also taking graduate classes. I love every hour I spend working to better prepare and plan lessons for my students. I strive to help my students reach their full potential academically and socially. I am a mentor to my students, with an open mind and heart. I believe in leading by example, modeling, and engaging. I always present a curriculum that encompasses the interest and needs of the children, while meeting standards as well. I am amazed at the intelligence, patience, and commitment that many teachers have. On the other end of the spectrum, I have also seen teachers who obtain less than ideal qualities. In this case, the students are the ones who suffer. All students are entitled to a quality education, but they are also entitled to a quality teacher. Closing the achievement gap for schools has to start within the classroom. As I seek for a degree in Educational Leadership I will work for the students in our schools, fighting to improve the quality of teachers that they each
