In my freshman year of high school, my brother began his freshman year of college here at UW-Madison. That is when I instantly fell in love with the city, the community, and the campus. Just by visiting periodically with my family, the community provided me with new thoughts and ideas and differing views and opinions. It was amazing to me that this acclaimed academic university was so open and accepting. That is when I set my mind and drive to being accepted into this university, and now here I am, attending this wonderfully diverse school. In high school, I would often be asked what I planned on studying in college, and the fact that I simply did not know terrified me. I was afraid that I would never find a passion. However, in my junior year of high school I began assisting the developmentally disabled kids in my school. This led to an employment at a local non-profit organization that specializes in activities for the developmentally disabled in my hometown. I worked there for 2 years and found my passion. I would like to be in a career position where I can help those in need. I would like to provide assistance and improvement to these individuals and their families. In order to do this, I would like to broaden my knowledge about these disorders. This would include involvement in clubs and organizations that specialize in these things, or continuing my employment working with children with special needs. With this career goal in mind, patience and compassion are important characteristics. Although I possess these, I hope my time at UW expands not only my passion, but my patience and compassion so I can be successful in my future.
