"Lost his battle to Wilson's disease due to liver and kidney failure, ten years after a successful liver transplant", read the obituary of my 19 year old cousin. Just two years younger than him, I didn't quite understand how such a young person could die due to such complex diseases. What I did know at that time was, that I had to find out how and that brought me to my career choice - medicine. As the basic sciences years passed by, I was more and more confident about my career choice and was enjoying learning about human body and its mechanisms.

I enjoyed working with the locales of the community and treating the patients.I learned and understood that it's not only possessing the knowledge but that communication with patients and their families is of utmost importance. As George B Shaw said, "a happy family is but an earlier heaven", when everyone in the family understands your decisions, it becomes easier to accomplish treatment goals. With empathy, compassion, and perseverance, I was able to gradually build a rapport with my patients and their families and provide better treatment. As much as I enjoyed working at the community program, I yearned to learn more and train myself to perfect my clinical skills at the university hospital.
