(2016). A Review of Standardized Testing in Mathematics, a Case Study Regarding the State of Connecticut. Insights to a Changing World Journal, 1266-283.retrieved from http://web.b.ebscohost.com.proxy-library.ashford.edu/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=3&sid=14a4a946-5305-4855-8067-b2abc2351a14%40sessionmgr103&hid=123 This is a case study of standardized testing in which the authors attempt to shed more light on the debate of standardized testing. The normal math totals from above 13 years of the “Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT)” were studied to see if any major alterations were among the three faculties (Map, & Kennedy 2016).
Some may take the easy way out, but others challenge themselves and take on what the world throws at them. Even though they may not achieve the results they would like, they keep pushing themselves and don’t give up. Not everything in life comes easily, so some sacrifices have to be made for the long run. Of course there will be those whose only goal is to just pass, nothing less, nothing more, but there will also be those who go above and beyond. We, as AP students, know that for a successful career, college is the first step and colleges look for students who challenge themselves in a tough course rather than getting a 100 in a regular course.
While I was thoroughly committed to the extracurricular activities, I have decided that my academic career was the best way to focus my abilities in order to reach my goal. Doing well in all of my IB classes has been my number one priority. With education being my number one priority, I strive to maintain a high grade point average. At the beginning of the junior year, I struggled with finding a manageable balance between all my activities. My GPA dropped due to my struggles in the beginning of the year.

I am taking your class due to several reasons, including preparation as the main reason. By taking Pre-calculus, I want to feel prepared to take AP calculus by learning the basic principles behind Calculus. In terms of academic goals, I want to score a high grade that signifies my ability of being able to learn calculus. In order to attain a high grade, I feel that it is necessary to ensure that I understand the notes that I am writing down, to ensure that I understand the answers I write down for homework problems, and to ensure passing test grades by studying.
I was born in a small city in southern China. My passion of mathematics started from junior high, when I encountered physics and chemistry. I found that behind every science subject, the language that helps to build theory is mathematic, which is strict, simply and elegant. Also, the same mathematical concepts can be used to describe different application, for example, quadratic function, itself can be used to model a trace of a moving object under gravity, it also can be used to describe the relationship between time, acceleration and distance. I surprisingly realized that mathematics is fundamental to all sciences, which is significant and beautiful.
My dad’s job opportunity halfway across the country would later be one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life, so far. I laughed, hysterically on the verge of tears, the moment I left ISC for the first time. Looking at my mom I said, “they don’t offer ap-calc, and I’m signed up for drama.” Not only did I lose my place of belonging, but now I was signed up for classes I didn’t need. I had lied back then, it wasn't just that I couldn't take ap calculus, it was how my mindset was focused on not being able to influence lives.
I’m in the halls of Century Middle School, where there are not enough classrooms for everybody. In this tiny school in a little city up in Colorado I’m stuck teaching math, wondering what boring surprises I will find. Of all the subjects. I just had to pick this one. The one that I have always despised, and tolerated, throughout my whole life.
Learning Calculus is time consuming and much of laboring. Practicing Calculus problems at least for three hours would be of great help for students in mastering Calculus concepts. Test preparations should be serious and a review of Algebra skills is also essential if students lack in the prior knowledge of Algebra. Pre Calculus courses in prior classes lay the necessary ground for high school topics. Getting the support of the instructor during office hours and seeking the help of student support teams minimize the struggles of students in learning Calculus courses at high school
Since, calculus was my first AP class in high school. It helped me towards developing a higher level of studying because it was a class two years advance from the norm in my grade. Many of the assignments were vigorous and expanded the way I would approach many situations. It felt as if the class was a combination of multiply classes together.
What excites me most about a degree in Modern Languages is to get the opportunity to further develop my knowledge of foreign literature, culture and history. Different languages and cultures have always fascinated me. This is because whilst travelling to different countries I have found that even with a basic vocabulary I was quickly able to integrate myself within a foreign community. Somebody once told me that after 12 months spent in France, you will actually begin to dream in French and I cannot wait to find out if that is true. French has been such a pleasurable language to learn, although it is incredibly structured, I find that the spoken word is romantic and melodious.
I would like to start this reflection by acknowledging that despite BC Calculus being the hardest math course I have taken, it was the most impactful on how I view and interact with mathematics. I remember the day of our infamous “Bull Run” invitational meet (one of the hardest cross country courses in the USA), I was complaining to Ebenezer about how hard the class had gotten despite it only being the first quarter. He reassured me that despite the challenge, this course shaped his love for mathematics and that after taking this class he would go through math problems — related to his running pace — as he was racing. Although I have not developed this degree of infatuation where I constantly think about math as I run, I do understand what
“ I think, therefore I am” These words of Renѐ Descrates, the eminent mathematician and philosopher have guided me throughout my academic career. With the same preseverance and confidence, I am standing at what may be turning point of my life and career. The sheer variety offered by Materials Science & Engineering and my glowing ambition to pursue a career in research have spurred me to apply for doctoral studies in Big Data Analytics.
As a college freshmen, there is no doubt that I still have a long ways to go in order to achieve my academic goals. And through this journey, I know that I will encounter highs and lows just as I experienced in the past, most notability in high school. I keenly remember instances around this time where I doubted my abilities when subjects like math was proving to be difficult, even when I was trying to put in effort to stay on track. I was struggling in math because I did not try to identify my weaknesses, and never tried to come up with solutions to fix my problems. Rather, I chose to give up on math and settle with a grade barely passing.
I viewed the course as an interesting, but still quite a tricky one and I also consoled myself that most likely, I could utilize that knowledge in the future. Likewise, I used to share the information I learned with my parents, supposing that it would interest them as well. Thereupon, the process of justifying myself was expanding even
