COMMUNITY SERVICE ESSAY

Camp Casey was something I have been wanting to do since I went as a little tyke. This year I was able to make it through the rounds of interviews rather confidently. I have worked with Kids in the past and was very excited to start as a counselor. I have a never ending love for children and the optimism and positive light they bring to any situation. I chose this activity because of the passion I feel towards education and children, As a counselor my job started very early Wednesday morning where I boarded the bus with the kids from Glacier park elementary school. Right away I was eager to start talking with the kids and trying to get them involved with the different songs we sang on the bus. They were easy to talk to and very bright about the whole experience. Having my girls act so kind allowed me to recreate the entire experience for myself, to replace painful memories with joyful ones. I spent the three days guiding my girls around the camp, we had different classes to attend each day. It was my job to make sure we showed up everywhere not only on time but ten minutes early. The entire time I wore my biggest smile and sang my very loudest. I was honestly blessed with well behaved, kind girls, they all got along and helped one another. Back when I was in fifth grade I was extremely excited to go away to camp, however the counselor I was assigned to could care less about me. The entire experience was a huge disappointment, the counselor let me get bullied by the other girls in our group. It was my goal to make this an incredible experience for the girls. Through the three days I reminded each one how beautiful strong and smart they are, it was my hopes to boost their confidence.
