When most people think of me, they think of all the things I have done for the football, basketball, and track program. What most people don’t really think about is that we are all student athletes. My basketball coach always told us that “Sports are a privilege, and that our education is a priority. Academic achievement is something I have always strived for. There has been so many time in my high school career where I studied or brought homework on the bus to games because I really that if really want to be successful in life, it’s going to be in the classroom and not on a field or court. Success in sports is awesome, but success in the classroom has always been the most important thing to me. Extracurricular activities have made me the man I am today. They have taught me so many things. Just a few things I learned are: how to be a leader, teamwork, how to handle failure, and how to handle adversity. The extracurricular activity that has had the biggest impact on my life is football. My freshman year in sports did not go as planned, we went 0-8 in football, and 3-19 in basketball. Community service has practically had the same impact as extracurricular activities to me. Out of all the community service events I have helped with, the one that stands out to me is when we sandbagged to prevent the flooding water from getting to our town. It was an eye opening experience because I have never seen so many citizens of Sutherland work together to accomplish one goal.
