"You have to focus on your education, now it's more important than anything else, but you have to be open minded to other things. I want you to have a good life and be able to buy anything you want without always depending on others." My mother said. I know she wanted me to be successful and appreciate the education and opportunities we have that she could not. Coming from another country, all I wanted was to live the American Dream with my family and want to be someone who my mother is proud of. There are times I struggle trying to understand and succeed my academic works. I tried my really best to improve because I have many young sibling who are looking up at me. My parent didn’t understand why would I join such “useless” program. My father didn’t like it how I was always out not doing my job as a daughter in the household. But my mother slowly learned that being a part of the program had helped me. She supported me even though my dad didn’t. The program taught me various things, it helped me open my eyes farther and to see things out there that never crossed my mind. I learned to love working with people from all different background because there's always something new you'll learn from them. Through that program, they challenged me in many different way. Getting out of my comfort zone was a hard thing for me I could never make conversation easily and act silly in front of others but then I did it . It took awhile but they never give up for me, and made sure that I can step outside of my boundaries to see a new perspective. The program made sure that I have a voice and taught me how to be confident in what I do, take initiatives and support
