I have learned so much from my high school american history course so far and I’m genuinely shocked by how interesting the information we are learning is. When I generally think about history it bores me but when I started learning about history this year everything changed. I think it’s very important to know history because without those historic events we quite possibly wouldn’t be where we are today. So that’s what I will be trying to do.
During my sophomore year, Advanced Placement United States History class quickly became my favorite course. I was one of the youngest in my class, surrounded by mostly upperclassmen who seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Intimidated by this class, I poured myself into my studies and fell in love with history, especially the creation of the United States. The debates between Federalists and Jeffersonians about the future of America, the enactment of Enlightenment ideals in this new experiment of a country, the creation of the Articles of Confederation, and then the Constitution, and later all the Amendments fascinated me. The complexity of all these issues and the fundamental question underlying these issues, how to create the best government, piqued my interest in a way completely different than the formulas and equations of my Chemistry classes.

The American government is founded upon dividing responsibility through three different branches: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branches. However, most of the responsibility goes to the head of the executive branch, otherwise known as the president. However, the government is structured with positions to absolve the president of the minutiae of the day-to-day oversight of the federal government and its ancillary departments. The United States President faces three distinct challenges: his role as the chief diplomat, his role as the chief legislator, and his role as the commander-in-chief. The Constitution provides the tools for the president to use in the variety of required roles they must fill: agencies which fulfill the
The subjects taught in the arts and history section of liberal arts programs across the universities in America revolve around the importance of culture and an ethical understanding of how the world works. This not only helps in self-development but also in the growing job industry where an understanding of ethics and communication plays an equally important role as the skills involving the job. Per Robert Thompson Jr., “Practical liberal education reflects the intentional integration of the traditional liberal education focus on developing intellectual and personal skills with the traditional professional and technical focus on solving complex problems” (2014). Moreover, history, art and political studies impart the ideas regarding the progression of human civilization and tradition. In times of globalization there is a greater need for us to understand the relationship that exists between countries of varying political standing.
The estimated number of refugees leaving their own country since World War II is one hundred million ("Refugee”). A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due to violence, race, religion, or war. Supporting and solving today’s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing, and security issues. ("Refugee Facts”). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes cause people to leave their homes or countries.
Children and adolescents are faced with developmental tasks at many points as they grow up, but there are a few stages in life when young people meet multiple challenges all at once. The transition from high school to college is one of those critical developmental periods. It is an exciting time that typically leads to considerable gains in maturity, but it is also a time during which many adolescents experience difficulties. This transition is an important event for families as well, because the family unit must navigate significant changes in relationships between family members. Again, although most families manage the transition well, it is quite common that they experience difficulties along the way.
From my first semester in college I could not decide what career I want to be in. After a long time thinking and researching I narrowed down my interest to political science, and my interests have directed me towards international relations and laws. I am fascinated by how the states of the world cooperate together to build a safe place for everyone. American government places a huge role in the world and many countries need American Foreign Service to help them with their problems. After hearing Melissa Martinez, I understood maybe it is good to think about working in Foreign Service.
I think I am still weak in this aspect. One is that, although the university is an international one and has students from all over the world, our courses are mainly focusing on the Asian area, especially Hong Kong and Mainland China. For example, in my courses of Taxation and Business Law, I was only taught the practices of Hong Kong. In addition, it is difficult to change the personal ways of thinking, which has been kept for many years. I always express ideas only from the perspective of a Chinese, instead of a global outlook, and that has narrowed my thoughts to a great extent.
In his Farewell Address, George Washington warned Americans about the effects of political polarization, saying,“One of the expedients of party to acquire influence, within particular districts, is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts.” Polarization is the division into two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions or beliefs. The political gap between Democrats and Republicans has been a growing problem but has seemed to get increasingly worse in recent years. Although the two-party system can help create balance within the government, political polarization is detrimental to American society because it causes tension between citizens and effects our daily lives. Ideological differences are visibly the main
I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.
Since learning AP Economics in my high school year, I have always desired to further my studies in economics. More specifically, I have wanted to study international relations in economics. Recently, Donald Trump has won the presidential election and his inauguration is expected to bring huge change in the world’s economy and foreign policies. These emerging crises have come to my attention and have sparked my curiosity. By applying for PEARL at Keio University, I plan to gain further insight into the topic.
The previous courses that I have taken have focused more on criminal justice. However, this course has provided a foundation in decision making that I can correlate to my other courses. For example, policy making in the criminal justice system. There are individuals who are responsible making decisions that affect our daily lives.
My interest in intercultural communication and determination of pursuing a career in international education motivated me to apply for the MA ICBP at Warwick University. The decision has been carefully made based on my bachelor degree in International Communications Studies with Spanish, voluntary teaching in primary schools in China and Cameroon. After graduation, I wish to work for as an administrative coordinator in an international education institution or as a program manager of NGO, promoting quality education. With 3-5 year working experience, I will head for a PhD degree to prepare myself for a research-oriented position. Undertaking my bachelor degree in the first Sino foreign university, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), is the first step for me to engage in cross-cultural communication as a learner.
Learning context will be widened, while maintaining a focus on the historical, social, geographic, economic and political changes that this subject area have been based on. Social studies refer to these actions as the study of interaction of the individual with their personal and social environment. Children learn about human achievements and about how to make sense of changes in society, of conflicts and of environmental issues. With greater understanding comes the opportunity and ability to influence events by exercising informed and responsible citizenship. As they participate in experiences and outcomes .
