College Admissions Essay: My Freshman Year Of High School

During my freshman year of high school I finally figured out what I planned to do after I graduated and moved on to college. I had set my sights on obtaining a music education degree, and as daunting as that seems for a freshman, I was excited and prepared to make my goal a reality. Like most high school students, I was never completely fond of my high school schedule, and although I did not thoroughly enjoy every class I was enrolled in, I made sure to make the most of my high school experience and take advantage of every opportunity offered by my school. My core classes, especially my more demanding AP classes, helped me to develop an organized and regimented study schedule. Not only did I uncover my love for music, but I also discovered what I really enjoyed doing the most; teaching music. Through the band program, I was offered the opportunity to assist at countless middle school and high school music clinics, as well as teach private lessons and sectionals to the middle school musicians living in, and around my city, which supplied me with an introduction to teaching, and allowed me to develop my teaching style. With the band being such a prominent part of my life, I also was given the opportunity to sharpen my musical talent. The band program provided me with high quality directors, and with well-known private lesson instructors that ultimately produced the musician I am today, and without these assets provided to me by the band, I wouldn’t stand a chance in a college music audition. Along with the fun and excitement that comes with being a music student, I also got to experience the more stressful aspects of having to balance school with the time consuming drawbacks of being involved with such a demanding activity.
