College Admissions Essay: My Journey To The Tennis Team

College Essay I moved to Tennessee when I was going into the 6th grade or in 2012. I had to make a drastic change from a small class of about 20 people to a class of a few hundred. I had to develop people skills and deal with large crowds. I didn’t have any friends and I was on my own. Although slowly I started to build connections. I tried out for the tennis team my first year but I didn’t cut it. Nothing really interesting happened until my 8th grade year. I was forced to join a rowing team because I had a friend trying it out. I was completely against doing any kind of exercise at that point, all I wanted to do was stay home and play video games. Little did I know joining that team paved a way for amazing things to happen. I started to build connections with the coaches and the athletes there. I started to finally breakout socially. The sport brought great exercise and helped me organize my life. When I first started on the team it was four days a week every week all year. Then once my freshmen year started the schedule was changed to six days a week for two and a half hours after school every day. …show more content…

Normally I would be doing the rowing but during my freshmen or ‘novice’ year the coaches approached me about being a coxswain. Now a coxswain is more than a funny name, I had to learn how to take leadership positions and give calls for people to follow. It kind of bumped me up on the social ladder as well.
