College Admissions Essay: My Transition

I always bring my jumper cables with me.

My jumper cables don’t rescue people from the side of the road, but instead from lethargy, anxiety, and insecurity. Being able to spread the spark of enthusiasm and school spirit is a necessity in a community. Whether I am announcing the annual homecoming powder puff football game or on the field as a member of pep club, I am able to help create an atmosphere of fun that unifies our community.

It was the first football game of the year, and it was obvious that many freshmen did not feel comfortable in their new community. By working in student admissions, I bring new families into the community that I love. I have been given the opportunity to directly influence hundreds of middle school kids and families in their high school decision. I have been able to see how contagious hard work can be and the importance of energy and enjoyment in leading others. Therefore, I launch every group activity similarly: I work with alacrity, hoping that others will do the same. My goal is to set a precedent. My hard work garners the respect of others. By trusting that everyone will pitch in, I give everyone a chance to contribute to reaching our objective. This immediately builds a sense of community as we work towards a single goal. When I notice that someone doesn’t participate, I delegate small tasks to them that they can accomplish, and then I connect the various skill-sets until everyone in the group is working effectively. I have found this methodology works with a partner when we complete an in-class lab or with a sports team to build cohesiveness over a
