Bloom, Dan. "Organic vegetarian restaurant owner convicted of poor treatment of his herd of cows after two cows and a calf die. " Daily Mail Online. Associated Newspapers, 13 June 2014.
Historically, higher education has been an exclusive environment. Throughout my timeline entries, I focused around the themes of increasing access for students and faculty at institutions of higher education. Higher education first expanded access in terms of religion. The colonial colleges—Harvard, William and Mary, and Yale—were all established as “adjuncts of their respective churches,” and labeled as the “Reformation Colleges” (Geiger, 2011, p. 38).
All throughout my life, I have been intrigued by worlds different than the one that I experience. In middle school, Harry Potter posters lined the walls of my bedroom, “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” was dutifully recorded every Wednesday, and I knew all of the characters and aliens in Doctor Who by heart. Give that realistic fiction to someone else - fantasy and sci-fi were the ones for me. As a result, today if given the option of traveling away to space or staying home on Earth, I would choose away in a heartbeat.
Fencing game animals results in unnatural genetics with animals unable to move freely. Providing easy game on farms lulls hunters into thinking all is well and wild habitat doesn’t need to be protected, defended, or enhanced. Game farms ignore less popular species and no one has the right to pen any wild species. Conditions on breeding farms are inhumane. Trophy hunting encourages “canned hunting” where animals are raised in captivity to be shot.
Cattle, oh how I love cattle. Showing livestock introduced me to my passion for the agriculture industry. But, I also participate in many other activities that have contributed to my interest in agriculture. Livestock judging, meats judging, and public speaking are just a few. As I have participated in these activities, my understanding and knowledge of the industry have flourished.
My fascination with various systems of the human body began at an early age, and continues to grow. My natural inclination was always towards Biology, I was hardly 9 years old when I taught myself how to draw the respiratory system and the veno-capillary system. A trait of my personality which I think differentiates me from other applicants is my creativity. Creativity is, in my opinion, a very important characteristic of a good physician, as it is a help during investigation processes and in difficult diagnosis situations
In the highly technological world that we live in nowadays, the knowledge and the education of a person are of the highest importance to the society. In modern society, a person who is interested in what he or she is doing is always believed to accomplish important tasks and to be able to receive respective gainings from their work. Being a person who is interested in business and the processes of connected with management, I would like to get the high level education in my field and become a professional who would be able to make a contribution to the development of the society and of the surrounding world. Therefore, I would like to apply for a course in the Carlson School of Management in the University of Minnesota.
Looking back and thinking about my decision of pursuing medicine as a career, I realize that there has been an array of personal and clinical experiences that brought me where I am today. The first time I realized internal medicine was my calling was at the beginning of my clinical clerkships, when I started to rotate in a variety of clinical settings, seeing a blend of medical conditions that urged me to think deeply about patients’ symptoms and to find the pathophysiologic root of their condition. I have chosen internal medicine not only because of the constant challenging medical cases, but also because it enables me to build a long term rapport with my patients and their families and to teach them the importance of prevention. Also, in Romania the residency training is mainly straight into subspecialty. I have always enjoyed the analytical thinking of all branches of internal medicine and having to choose one meant missing out on others.
Astronomy – The branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. Astronomers average at about $101,000 a year. Astronomers study celestial phenomena, using a variety of ground-based and space-borne telescopes and scientific instruments. I am very interested in astronomy, because I have always enjoyed the study of space and the universe. I will try my best and give 100% effort to become an astronomer one day.
I want to use this rare experience to change perspective, plus promote science to people with similar background as me. Inspire more people of my age to be interested in science. Also it would show to universities that I am a strong competitor and that I am determined to use my skills and interest to benefit a wide community through this opportunity.
“Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food” – Hippocrates. My thinking aligns with the aforementioned thought. My passion in life lies in accordance with food. In fact, I love to bake and cook; in short, I am a chef in the making.
Considering myself a polymath, CU Boulder’s eclectic student body helped me develop and mature in many aspects of my life. To further my work at the middle college, I expanded my interests in academia and healthcare leading me to my current interests - research and patient education. Working multiple jobs to support myself, I practiced the synergistic balance of patient care and research that I will achieve as an MD/PhD. My work on Cannabis genomics taught me skills such as bioinformatics programming and PCR primer design, but also the invaluable ability to design, fund, and lead research. Simultaneously working in an Optometry office, I recognize both the researcher’s and clinician’s perspective that is essential as a leader of academic medicine.
Ever since the emotionally scarring day when my brother split his head open on Christmas Eve, I know my fate is to be a doctor. The college has many academic, service, and research opportunities that will prepare me for the challenging road to success in future years.
I came to the United States as an international student in 2010 and graduated from Coe College in 2014 with a bachelor’s in Accounting and Business.
