As a child, reading was a large component in my life. I remember lying on my bedroom floor reading with contentment for hours on end. Although both my mother and father inspired me to read, my mom taught me how by sitting me in her lap, helping me sound out the letters, and teaching me how to say the words. I believe that she is responsible for inspiring me to make good grades throughout my educational career, and even at an early age, to take pride in reading and writing no matter how unimportant my generation perceived them to be. Reading and writing has been the foundation of my education. During elementary school, I enjoyed reading small chapter books giving me a sense of accomplishment when I would complete the entire book. About the time I began reading adventurous and mystical stories, I began to write my own; however, because I was young, the contents of the stories were simple, to say the least. As I look back, I realize that beginning to write at a young age was rewarding, and as time passed by, I began to take an interest in nonfiction books. Reading about something real along with gaining knowledge from every book gave me a wonderful feeling, and reading this genre has helped me learn new vocabulary and has made me a better reader in general. …show more content…
