College Admissions Essay: The Art Of Dance

Every since I could remember, I have always had a great interest and love for the art of dance. As a kid, I would spend countless hours in my backyard by myself, learning, practicing, and perfecting new skills. When I wasn’t in the yard pretending to be one of my many inspirations, I would be watching Dancing with the Stars on television with my father. Even in my early adolescence, as impatient as most are, I had the patience to sit and watch the dancers. My eyes glued to the screen, and a look of anticipation fixed on my face ready to later mimic the way they moved with my dad, or on my own. I was in love, even as a little girl, to dancing wherever and whenever I could.

My first “real” experience dancing came when I was ten years old. My heart nearly emerged from my body at the sight of the dance studio. It was everything I had imagined and more. Around the perimeter of the studio were ballet bars and bright large mirrors. We all were dressed in black body unique to our choice, and our hair was pulled neatly away from our faces. One of the most impactful workshops I attended was taught by Sabrina Phillip, who individually challenged me as a dancer, focusing on placement, correct technique, strength and agility. Her discipline, movements and choreography left me in awe. We also attended “LOVE by Cirque Du Soleil” and it was truly one the most incredible show I have ever watched. The costumes, choreography, technology and music brought a vibrant and engaging experience performed by world-class aerialists, acrobats and dancers. Attending workshops with Disneyland cast members and at well known studios within these cities was truly amazing and each one of them really pushed me and taught me so much, and overall left me beyond
