The Lessons of the Land There is a fine line between overwhelming confidence and crippling fear that is often difficult to find let alone walk. However it’s the only place you can stand atop a mountain. One step you’re on top of the world, the next you plummet to a horrible death. You are truly in charge of your fate. As a native of Montana I’m no stranger to grand formations surpassing anyones hopes and dreams. To a regular kid, climbing a mountain is only a fairy tale but to me, it’s just another weekend adventure. I utterly year for a constant input of knowledge. I long for the weekend to end only to return to school, the only place where my appetite is satisfied. I’m immensely thankful for the education system and the institutions of learning that have been made available to me. While I continue to learn about myself and the world around me, I must now make decisions that will impact my future more than any of the minuscule decisions I have made in the past. Now I have to determine where I want to pursue further education. College is nothing but scary to a boy only concerned with paying for gas and writing this essay. But in times of trouble I have always turned to faith. Growing up going to church and moving to a new state so your dad can become a pastor makes faith an immensely big part of your life, and the connection felt to God in the mountains in unmatched. Away from the bustle of civilization and man made structure, one can finally enjoy the beauty of the natural world. Everything the mountains have taught me, I attribute to the work of God.
