My mind is exploding with ideas, but my pen lays still on the pure white paper. My fingers tighten their grip on the black ink pen yet no words appear. In moments like this when the words don’t flow how I want them or I can’t confide my thoughts into well executed sentences I move on, put it away, save it for later. Always soon after where I ever I may be a spark goes off, a spark that ignites a fire in my brain that is indescribable. Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Deep into my happy place you’ll find me typing a thousand words a minute of a dramatic, nail biting story with a thick, hefty book by my side for inspiration. Even when I got that sensational feeling of achievement after I finished a story or poem I couldn’t help but be nervous of what my classmates would think of my writing. Not to be cocky but as the years went on it was never any surprise to my classmates if my name was called to go to the front of the room. Particularly short stories or extremely descriptive pieces, all of my teachers seemed to really resonate with. This not only boosted my self-esteem but made my never ending love and appreciation for writing go through the roof. My English teachers began to challenge me seeing that I was the only kid in the room who actually enjoyed writing. And then almost suddenly the sickening condition for writers otherwise known as writer’s block took over my life. This was a daily occurrence for me and every day I dreaded a new prompt that would take me hours when only a few months ago it would have taken me minutes to finish. To this day I hold my writing to very high standards, while I know it has never and will never be perfect because of how much I enjoy it I want to always feel satisfied with my writing.
