Upon my graduation from Charles Wright Academy, I ventured into an entirely different realm of adulthood I did not know existed yet. I traded in my seven-hour classes at school, consisting of primarily sitting behind a desk and diligently working, for shifts at a restaurant where I was constantly running around. The four years I attended Charles Wright presented me with numerous opportunities to become involved on campus and within the community. I was able to participate in a variety of activities such as volleyball, track, and be apart of The Green Key Club at my school. Even when I was not on campus, I was thrilled to be given the opportunities to volunteer within my community. Now two years later, I am enjoying my job more than I could have dreamed. This job was my first step to freedom and has helped me explore the workforce and take steps further away from my comfort level. Through my job, I have learned to manage my finances and in doing so was able to open my first credit card, begin my savings account, as well as buy my first car that I was able to purchase on my own with no assistance from a co-signer. The most rewarding part of beginning my job is that it has allowed me to play a bigger role in helping my mom alleviate the burden of her financial stress. I was able to take over most of my own bills, including my phone, groceries, as well as help pay for my education. Among all of these rewarding aspects, I have also found difficulties once I started balancing school and work.
