I have always been interested in computers. In fact, from a young age I dreamed of designing computer games. My knowledge of computer science that I learned as an undergraduate at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has brought me one step closer to realizing this dream, but to be truly successful in the game design industry I know that I must go even further. Therefore, it is my hope to complete an MS in Computer Science at Rochester University. WHY

At the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute I graduated with a dual major in computer science and communications. I learned the fundamentals of games in the History and Culture of Games and the Psychology and Social Effects of Games. In Writing for Games, I actually designed my own game, complete with design documents. This course not only allowed me to achieve a life-long dream, but also provided insight into the details of the game design process. Perhaps my favorite course, however, was Characters and Stories for Games, where I wrote the plot of a game and built an accompanying visual novel with Ren’Py. In …show more content…

I work closely with our design team to build business applications for clients. Working on the front lines with clients has taught me that a good application not only needs functionality, but also a user-centered design. At Ithos Global, I have learned real-life technological applications that I did not study at university, such as OpenText BRS Database and Thesaurus. In addition to design work, I also have had the opportunity to work on (and improve) existing tools used by our company. One tool in particular originally used a (not so user-friendly) Command Prompt interface, so I applied what I had learned from the company’s clients to build a Graphical User Interface (GUI) with enhanced backend functionality.
