College athletes spend hours a week practicing for their games; some people think the athletes should be paid, but they do not. College athletes practice and play their sport for at least two or three months; some sport seasons go even longer and the athletes aren’t paid for it. The NCAA (National College Athletic Association) makes millions a year so people think that the players should get a little of it. The athletes do it in hopes to go to the pros one day but if they do not it would be nice to have that money from playing in college. College athletes should be paid because they bring in large amounts of money for the NCAA, they put their future careers on the line every time they play, and it helps start financial awareness. The article The top 10 reasons college athlete’s shouldnt be paid says “These athletes almost always get their full tuition paid for, or at least significantly discounted.” (listland.com 8) es this is true, but athletes can still get injured while playing to get to the pros then all that work goes down the chute, so pay them now while they still play, don’t wait till it’s to late. The top 10 reasons college athletes shouldn’t be paid states “For every high school athlete that dreams of playing in college, only about 7 percent go on to do it. Furthermore, only 2 percent of these people play in a Division I school.” (listland.com 10)Yes that does make it sound like a privlage, especially the 2% who go to Division I schools those are the good schools like Alabama, Wisconsion, Michagan State, etc, but again things can happen before they have a chance to go to the pros. It’s stupid that they risk it. The athletes work their buttt off and don’t get much in return. (listland.com 14) This could happen, but in the NFL the quarterback’s making millions a year and the punter normally makes roughly $90,000 a year but no one complains then, so people shouldn’t be complaining about paying college athletes
