For many years now, Division I athletes have dedicated themselves into their sport they worked so hard for day to day. The athletes’ love for the game has got them into a university where not only they can showcase their talent but also bring in a profit to the school. In these past years, there has been a controversial question that every athlete thinks about: should college students who play a sport get an extra benefit by being paid? In this paper, I will address the issues such as exploitation and the effects of paying each athlete on the university.

Even though the college athletes have not reached the professional level yet, they are still required to work at their sports like a professional does. Diggs, a UT football player says, my whole life in college has been revolved around football. Basically my schedule is school, workouts or practice, and sleep. I don’t have much personal time to myself except for weekends and that’s if I’m lucky (Diggs).
Student athletes are focusing on an education as well as their sport; whereas professionals are just focusing on their sport. These athletes have more than passion for the sport they play not only because they are fighting for playtime but also managing to make decent grades to pass all of their classes. They don’t have time to go out and get a job; they barely have enough time to have a personal life. Many people are against these athletes being paid because they feel as if they don’t need the extra benefit, and most agree that receiving a scholarship for their education is plenty for these individuals. What people don’t see is that student athletes have been promised to receive an education to play, but many do not receive it. The universities make deals with networks to televise the games and with that,
