Born as the oldest into a family of five children has always positioned me as a leader because it made me feel obligated to set good examples for my siblings to follow in life. So, being a young woman following her dreams by majoring in biological science has challenged me in many ways both intellectually and psychologically. At times I felt like giving up but with the support from my family and determination, I was able to successfully acquire my degree. Shadowing him in the clinic helped me learn how to use my skills in realistic emergency situations and how important it is for a physician to have a trusting relationship with a patient to facilitate treatment and recovery. And Through the health club in secondary school, I volunteered as a child care aide at the local daycare center with a group of the club members. That experience was really enlightening when compared to the medical field because I learnt that children are more unpredictable than adults. The reason is because I feel that with my determination and hardwork, I will be able to surpass any challenge. Throughout my experience in college, I found biology laboratory courses comfortable because I am more of a practical and visual learner. My reason for pursuing a career in medicine is because I was inspired by my uncle and the doctor who saved me as a child as they were the people I looked up to as mentors. The support from my family and my academic achievement in the sciences also motivate me to work harder in pursuing a career in medicine. My parents are my role models as they have always allowed me to follow a career path that I am passionate about. Their struggles and hard work towards providing a stable life for me and my siblings in the U.S has also inspired me to do the same.
