What differentiates medicine from the majority of the other courses derives from our lack of complete understanding of the subject, and its influence in every aspect of our lives. I view medicine as an open field with many exciting opportunities yet ahead of it. Having come from a disadvantaged background, my passion for medicine stems from my desire to help progress the world and provide equal opportunities for all. I believe there is no gift greater than the gift of giving, and hope to be able to use a career as a doctor to alleviate the unnecessary suffering of others, particularly those whom need it most. The nature of the medicine course excites me as not only will it be challenging; it would be both stimulating and rewarding.
Everyone falls ill at some point in their lives, and is required to seek medical attention. Fortunately, our medical knowledge is expanding, and the harm that may arise from illnesses is on an ever receding decline. During my experience, I learnt a vast deal of information on the profound effects such a disease can have, and have come to greatly admire the teamwork, dedication and leadership skills required in the day centre. This has helped to broaden my experience of the obstructing nature of certain diseases in everyday life and the empathy and patience of carers/doctors to deal with such issues appropriately. My experience at ICare had also strengthened and further supported my aspiration for a career in medicine. Building a professional relationship with the clients had given me a whole new insight from the perspective of a patient, and has shown me the importance of continuing their care following their release from hospital.
