Essay Exam Response In this essay exam, I chose the second option as my exam question. The question asked me to write a comparison/contrast paper about the setting in two works. The reason I chose this option is I already prepared for it before the exam day, so I have a clear outline to answer it. As I mentioned, I did the preparation for the exam, and it benefits me a lot. However, the preparation still has some weaknesses. Before the exam day, I looked through all the potential questions, and have some basic ideas about every question. Then I wrote the outlines for three questions which I am most confident to write about. And the outline works well, it contains the major points I want to talk about and it connects closely to the question. As for the weakness of the preparation, my outline lacks the specific quotes and examples from the text. Also, the author’s name and some backgrounds are not familiar to me. For example, I wrote the two works’ names: “The Lady of Shalott” and “The Yellow Wallpaper”, then I wrote the similar and the different settings they both have. After that I started to write my essay exam. Like my peer said, my essay exam has some strengths but it also has some weaknesses. The argument of my essay exam is strong and I also provide lots of examples to support it. For instance, the setting of place in “The Lady of Shalott” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” are similar to each other, and they also have the same functions in the whole story.
