A learning disability is a neurological disorder that affects a person brain causing it to not being able to process and respond to information. Someone who is diagnosed with a learning disability can develop trouble with learning and using certain skills. Some skills that are affected are reading, writing, listening, speaking, reasoning, and mathematical problems. Learning disability does vary from person to person. Dyslexia is defined as a specific learning disability that is neurological derived. An individual with dyslexia may have difficulties with processing and manipulating the sounds in a spoken language. Singer article state “dyslexia as a complex syndrome characterized by a variety of difficulties associated with reading, spelling, writing, listening, and processing information due to neuroanatomical abnormalities” (Singer, 2013). To understand how dyslexia affects a person it is also crucial to know what area of the brain is affected. The study showed that it was conducted by self-reports that tested 53 universities students that are diagnosed with dyslexia. Some of the problems that were noted academic problems struggles with “note taking and expressing ideas in writing” (Olofsson, Ahl, and Taube, 2012). Majority of the students who were tested also addressed that their learning impairments were something they struggled with in elementary school.
