Frankly, an online application does not provide enough insight into a person. Granted, all of an applicant's statistics such as grades, GPA, and rank are readily available. However, aspects such as personality, goals, and sanity levels are not. To truly explore one’s character, a conversation must take place, but I suppose an essay works similarly. The reason I began my application is GSSM’s unique mission statement which elaborates on developing students to positively impact South Carolina. While most schools boast of world-class curriculums that ensure college readiness and success, GSSM prioritizes bettering communities through students; I gained knowledge about GSSM’s true purpose and decided to apply. My mornings usually consist of scrambled eggs and toast, while dinner is rice with curry. I speak English with all of my friends, but, at home, Telugu is the language of choice. Such blended occurrences are normal but still present the illusion that I’m living a double-life. Throughout my childhood, I’ve experienced the struggles of having a different lifestyle than my peers; such experiences have shaped me to be open-minded and non-judgemental towards one’s differences. The world is becoming more connected and globalization is evolving societal norms. In order to keep up with the trend, one must become more accustomed to ambiguities in human traits. Various factors including economic stability, school system, and health can manipulate a student’s record. Consequently, I focus on learning rather than grades; when information is properly learned, then grades should reflect the knowledge so regurgitating memorized material is unnecessary. My goal is not to compete with fellow peers, but to create a community in which everyone works together and enjoys success together. GSSM’s student body promotes teamwork which allows everyone to be involved and supported. Likewise, I have had my fill of careless teachers and ridiculous standards. A teacher should ignite a fire to learn in students, not assign busywork. Instead of learning passively, I use every assignment to further explore topics outside of school. I believe that if one follows excellence, then success will trail behind. Meaningful education depends on one’s desire to achieve and not on numbers or the school they
