College Students: The Causes Of Stress In College

Going to college is stressful enough without the need to worry about tuition and how you’re going to pay for it. This makes it harder for students going to college to graduate and brings a lot of stress to their lives. According to Lockman, suicide is estimated to occur at a rate of between 4.25 and 6.5 per 100,000 students, and this is the second cause of death for college youth. (154) When the workload in college is overflowing and you’re expected to put hours into studying for each course you take, students get stressed. I personally have felt this way in college with the last semester I took. At times my stress level with all of my assignments was too much and made me second guess if all of this stress and money going towards the work I was putting in was worth it. As a college student, I’ve hit rock bottom to the point where I’ve wanted to quit, but then I realized once I finish all that’s required for my degree I will have my diploma that no one can take from me. College is not easy, nor inexpensive. And from experiencing both high school and college, I have seen a huge difference in the two. College brings out the inner you when I thought I’d never bring myself to real-world experiences, I was wrong. College is all about new decisions and the work effort you decide to put into your assignments. Students should have the right to free public college education if they are willing to do the work, like me, because I want to provide myself with a reliable, highly-paid job
