In 1807 congress passed a law to ban the importation of African slaves to the United States. Even though this went into effect it didn’t mean it stopped people from owning slaves. Slavery existed in the 18th and 19th century in the United States. In 1884 the novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published by Mark Twain. In the novel Jim is a young boy who is a slave. Huck is a young boy whose parents have slaves. Huck runs away following the Mississippi river. He runs into Jim and they run away together because Huck realized it didn’t matter what you skin color is we are all the same. When this book was published, slavery was still a norm.
