In this novel F. Scott Fitzgerald shows his readers how colors are related to characters. This helps further understand the characters. Colors and characters are important to have together. They help further analyze a character’s personality. In this novel almost every character has a color related to them. Gatsby and Daisy both have colors that reveal who they truly are. The color development of the characters helps the story unravel the mystery of Gatsby’s love.
The color green relates to mainly Gatsby ,but also Daisy. This color symbolizes his true love for Daisy. Gatsby wants more than anything to be with her. drives a white car to prove the point further. “ They were both in white, and their dresses were rippling and fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short flight around the house.”(pg. 9) White is often considered a color to represent purity.White shows innocence and honesty. If white is mixed with any other color it is no longer white. The color is just a shade of its former purity. Anytime somebody thinks of Jesus Christ He is always pictured in a white robe. Jesus is the best example to represent white. He also is referred to with gold and red.
The colors gold and silver are also involved in this book. Gold is related to being rich and prosperous. Silver also goes along with having material wealth. Gatsby is known for his money. The parties he throws also represents gold and silver. Gatsby's parties are always the biggest and best around. His money was made illegally from bootlegging. Gatsby started out poor, made money, and became rich. This is not a good example of the American dream. The American dream should be earned by an honest
