Summary: Currently, Colorado’s second largest city, Colorado Springs is projected to surpass Denver in population by 2050. The textbook is more direct and states that not only is it a human resource, but it is also a willingness to take risks (Ch. 1; Entrepreneurial Talent). What ties these together these together is that the city of Colorado Springs building an infrastructure that cultivates risk-taking, thus drawing in younger potential entrepreneurs. Millennials are less apt to settle and willing to see themselves succeed and overcome a common stereotype of laziness and foolishness. One of the main attractions of Colorado Springs is that its Cost of Living is much lower than other Industry hubs, for Denver alone it is 15.6% less; this, in conjunction with the feel of more opportunity, ties closely with the textbooks topics on how the economy is measured via Consumer Price Index and it’s “market basket” for this region (Ch. 2; Economics and Banking). Colorado Springs has seen it is economy steadily increase, and more people who wish to innovate and drive business will migrate to this growth to take advantage and create personal wealth. The influx of startups and small businesses forces employees to take on more roles and have more responsibilities, this empowerment is directly quoted in the article “I could only dream about that kind of experience in a larger city.” (Eichengreen) Millennials are drawn to a connection, both with their company and the community. The textbook calls this “Employee Empowerment” and states that because companies need to be more responsive to their customers they are seeking out employees who have interpersonal and communication skills and giving them more autonomy.
