For most high school seniors, choosing a college is one of the most difficult decisions they will make throughout their high school career. Students must consider the advantages and disadvantages of many options such as location, size of the school, class size, tuition, and room and board. While making a decision on a college for myself has been a long process of researching my options and discovering which school fits best with my needs, I have discovered that while The American Academy of Art (AAA) and The School of the Art Institutes of Chicago (SAIC) have advantages, I should attend Columbia College Chicago. The location of the school makes travel extremely easy throughout the city because of trains, buses, taxis. The school is also a six minute walk from Chicago’s ‘historic’ Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain, and a ten minute walk to Millennium Park and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (“About the Academy”). SAIC is located at 116 South Michigan Avenue and provides an ideal environment for young artists because of the museums and art galleries and cafes. Places throughout the city, including the Adler Planetarium and Lyric Opera House, are both accessible by a quick walk or bus ride (“SAIC”). In comparison, Columbia College Chicago is located at 600 South Michigan Avenue and is centered in the Art’s District and South Loop of Chicago. The location provides inspiration everywhere, with other creative works and people completely surrounding all who attend. Columbia is also within a ten-minute train or bus ride from places like Wicker Park, Lincoln Park Zoo, and the beautiful Lake Michigan (“Columbia College Chicago”). In my opinion, Columbia has a better location because it is centered in the Arts District of Chicago, so it provides a ‘young artist’ with inspiration on a daily basis.
