Come Outside to Play: The Need for the Revitalization of Parks and Recreations In Berks County, parks and recreations has played a pivotal role in the lives of families for generations. I can remember going to park when I was younger and having the time of my life. Flying kites with my dad, going swimming, and craft days on Friday, there was never a dull moment and it gave me some of my best childhood memories. The need for structured recreation in the home and community is an integral process of child development. It was a connection to home, both John Gilmore and Chad Henne were Berks County natives, graduating from Wilson High School. When a community has a positive outlook the strides they can make can be astronomical. When the participating in structured recreational activities it helps them in all stages of life. The goals are focused toward meeting the needs of the community through experiences that can bring growth while improving the quality of life for residents. Many participants,and childhood members of urban recreation, have grown into adulthood, achieved success and are now employed in positions of leadership and recognition. In 2013 the foundation wired Barbey,s Playground with wireless internet, so that the members of the community had access to the internet service (Mcfadden). This renovation brought internet to children and families that didn’t have access to it. Bringing so many members of the city of Reading (Berks County), closer to technology while also changing the way that children write papers and do research. Helping kids to have the resources they need right at their finger tips. In the past, taking long distance or continuing education classes, at a community college or university could be a long complicated task.
