This past week, Comedian Kathy Griffin has been facing some serious controversy regarding a photo shoot she participated in. In this photoshoot, Griffin was holding a bloody, decapitated head that was intended to look like President Trump. These photos have not only upset President Trump, but also his family and supporters as well. Despite the freedoms listed in the first amendment, what Griffin published was not justly protected by this amendment. The first amendment gives us the civil liberties freedom of speech, press, and religion to an extent. However, what Griffin published went beyond what is defined as acceptable by this amendment. Griffin even claims that the first family is using their power status to bully her about the picture. Considering the president holds one of the highest positions of power, for his family and himself to bully Griffin, despite what she did is still not appropriate behavior. Griffin did publicly apologize and removed the pictures from her social media sites, however, the issue still angered the first family. President Trump tweeted something along the lines of “Griffin should be ashamed of herself.” While in my opinion, I agree Griffin should be ashamed and I am sure is feeling ashamed considering the numerous amounts of hate and negative feedback she received. The first lady even tweeted about being concerned with Griffins mental health, which could make people question Griffins mental health. This leads to issue of slander (injury by spoken word). Since the so called slander Griffin has accused the first family of participating in, she has lost many gigs and endorsement deals she was a part of. Also, Griffin lost her job hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve
