As many new inventions are getting introduced to our daily life, our life is getting easier and easier. People do not have to go to a library to read a book, or go to a football match to watch the game; they could do these things and more with ease at the comfort at their home. Is the technology helpful. the answer is yes, but are we getting smarter, or we are just appear to be smarter while we are not, not mentioning the fact that people do not have the same sense of time that they used to have . These printed books have shaped people’s thinking throughout the centuries. The book is an intellectual tool we use it to increase our knowledge. In “The Coming of the Book,” Lucien Febvre and Henri-Jean Martin are explaining the importance of print, and how writing a book evolved and went through phases like being written on the clay tablet, then papyruses, and then parchments, and at last Gutenberg’s invention of the print. Stephen Greenblatt describes the same importance of scribing and the invention of print through poggio in his famous book “The Swerve.” The print books brought many changes. One of the changes was the availability of the books in large numbers, the other one was the lower cost of the books. This change had a lot of impact in the empowering of the middle class, because before the invention of print the books were kept in churches and museums. It helped in the spreading of the print houses, which resulted in the publication of many books.
