An event in the late 1930s and early 1940s was a sad and intense period of time where millions of Jews were slaughtered in multiple ways. A little girl, Anne, a Jew, was living in this time and said,” In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” While all of this sadness was happening, Anne saw all of the good in every single person, and even after the book is said and done, I would have to disagree with Anne Frank’s quote. I think that people are not good at heart always because of Mr. Van Daan, his action of taking all of the food and blaming it on the rats was selfish and betrayal to all of the other members in the annex. Even though I think this, there is also an opposite end to this, which would be Mr. Dussel’s actions of keeping all of the members in the annex safe and calm during events made him a true hero to the Franks and Van Daans. …show more content…

I believe this because of Mr. Van Daan’s act to frame the rats into eating all of the food even though it was him in the end. This shows on page 121, when Mr. Dussel caught him eating the food, and he said,” You dirty thief - stealing food- you good-for-nothing…” Meanwhile, this scene takes place in the middle of the night, when Mrs. Frank wakes up unexpectedly. Mr. Van Daan always tries to be sneaky so that he doesn’t get caught and get kicked out of the annex, but since she woke up, he was sure to be a goner. He was shamed and nobody knew if they could trust anyone anymore. His son was not only ashamed of him before for smoking, now that he stole food and has been, Peter must feel like locking himself up in a dark room for the rest of his life. All of the people in the world, especially Mr. Van Dann, are not good at
