The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a good book so far. This book sometimes make you wonder what other things have been taken from black people without them knowing what was going on. In this book it talks about how black people were treated and how they really didn 't get that much attention when they were in the hospital. When Henrietta told the doctor that their was something wrong with her the doctor didn 't do anything about but if she woulda been white the doctors would gone and check what wrong with her and try to find a way to cure her. This is something that I didn 't like how the white people treated the black people and i did not like the fact that the doctor took Henrietta cells even though the husband said he did not want them to take Henrietta cell.

This book, can relate to people who don't usually believe that they can make a change. That they have no effect on the world. This book, tells you straight up, that if you change yourself, you can change the world around you. This is very motivating, and a very awesome
The book consists of many compelling short stories that revolve around the major conflict, which allowed me to read the book without losing interest. However, the book was not just entertaining to read, but taught me many life lessons and allowed me to realize many important facts. For example, in the book, Denver and Ron are two opposite people that have virtually nothing in common and are actually a little bit scared of each other at first. However, after they decide to reach out to one another, they not only become best friends, but end up changing each others’ lives for the better. This reminded me that I could be a little bit more outgoing and friendly in life, reaching out to other people instead of seeing the same couple of faces every day.

“Lost Innocence” by Jeremy Bernard is about the innocence of baseball and how it was lost by the use of PED drugs. George Mitchell and Eric Walter argue on this topic. They agree with one thing, that there is a risk to health. But they disagree on the risk that it places to adults, and who should be the one to make a decision, if the risks are worthy enough that someone should do something. Walter argues that there is no information that a harm comes from using the drugs, but Mitchell takes a different turn; since there is no evidence so far of the drug then it should not be allowed.
From the book I have learned the history of the KKK, other knight groups, their way of living, and their way of thinking. I have also learned how somebody can be a regular old citizen in our community, but is a part of a hate group and believes that Blacks, Latinos, Asians, people from the LGBT community, and Jews are the enemy. Not only are these groups are more than relevant all over the country, but there are young children who will keep these groups alive. The children will be corrupted into thinking that racial hate is normal way to think and will follow the footsteps into their parents. This book very much shows how the Neo-Nazis, racist skinheads, white nationalist, and other groups want a white dominated nation.
It is based on a true story, and it gives the readers a clear idea of what life was like for indigeneous Australians, in the time of the stolen generation. It also gives kids an appreciation for their own family and freedom. I strongly recommend this book for teachers to share with their students as it is educational, moving, and heart warming, and hopefully this will encourage the next generation to treat people equaly no matter where they are from or what they look
It seemed that there was too much information. Due to all of this jumping around, there was a lot of unnecessary repetition made within stories that could have been avoided in cutting down sections. Finally, it seemed that Wilkerson was trying to emphasize the migration too much as she mentioned several times throughout the novel that her parents were a part of this historical event. While these are minor weaknesses, they made the receiving of the information difficult to comprehend. This novel is important because it enlightens readers about how modern society was formed and how injustices and inequality were still faced by migrants despite journeying far away from the Jim Crow
The book was challenged by a middle school in Brentwood, Tennessee in 2006 because the book contains “profanity” and “contains adult themes such as rape and incest.” The complaints also say that the book promotes “racial hatred, racial division, racial separation, and promotes white supremacy.” The people that say that are people that are trying to ‘protect’ other people from knowing and understanding what happened in the past because they believe that if they do know and understand what happened in the past then they will become racist and believe in white supremacy. These kinds of people are like the Holocaust deniers who believe that six million Jews where not murdered despite all of the evidence against that. George Santayana once said “Those who cannot remember the past are bound to repeat it.”
Black Like Me gave me more insight on racism, taught more about the importance of identity, and the arrogance of hypocrisy. The novel opened up my eyes to how gloomy it was to be dark-skinned in the fifties, even currently in the world today. Millennials have such a widespread source of how we can retrieve news and keep up to date with the world just at the press of a button; however, commonly having that ability is not always a fantastic thing. As a society we need to be more accepting of those who are unique, race does not define someone and people should not have to think “will they treat me as who I am regardless of my skin color or will they treat me as some nameless Negro?”

Everybody has somebody that they continue to fight for, someone who is their everything and they’ll do anything for because that’s how much they love them. Ishmael’s story explores that, how his family kept him going. His story also informs those who are less knowledgeable in the history of Sierra Leone.
Many audiences of stand up comedy enjoy hearing their favorite comedian entertain them. But what would one think when a comedian cracks a joke about a sensitive topic, for example, a tragedy that affected hundreds of people. Some may argue that, comedians are not supposed to overstep the boundary of controversial jokes. These controversial jokes are linked with political correctness—which is used to describe language, policies, and measures that are taken to avoid offense to certain groups of people. Comedians are not compelled to restrain from controversial topics due to the topic not being sugar-coated, the higher level of contemplation that the joke can reach, and the job of the comedian—to make the current issue manageable.
