We need fiction books in school because they help with problems that kids deal with. There are a lot of teenage problems the occur everyday that are in fiction books and aren't in non-fiction. The book can help kids because it is about a teenage boy going through a lot of weird emotions that most high school teenagers go through. You can see some of these weird emotions such as depression throughout the book. on Page 81 Benton feels so lost and depressed, he commits suicide. The author wants us high schoolers to be able to relate to the characters in the book because we are going through the same emotions ourselves, this is a way for us to relate to them. On page 108 paragraph 1 Cullen starts losing hope in finding his brother after the psychic says his brother HAD a strong spirit. Cullen gets upset because the psychic is referring to his brother as dead. Furthermore, studies have shown that 30% of students in high school are depressed and only 9% are being treated. It talks about the weird emotions most teenagers go through. Throughout all of Cullens portion of the book you he experiences weird and mixed emotions, before and after the loss of his brother. Cullen experiences depression and loss after his brother goes missing and he also experiences love with Ada when she starts hanging out with him. Cullen also experiences the weird parts of relationships after he starts hooking up with Alma. Cullens family also experiences a change in their relationship after the loss of their son. Before Cullens dad was never home to help with anyone else in the family. After the loss of his son Cullens dad is home all the time doing everything he can to help support his family and find his son. Without books like these, many students would feel hopeless and feel like there no way out of the pit of depression they are
