The book I chose was Code Talkers the book is about the Navajo Marines of World War Two. The writer of my book, Joseph Bruchac writes books relating to indigenous people of America, He also focuses on Anglo-americans and Natives. The reason i chose this book is because it is a fictional book but is based on Facts. So when you read the book your learning information but it’s not boring you because it’s has that fictional story to get you interested in the book.
“Is life in the army what Charley expected?” The book “ Soldier’s Heart” by Gary Paulsen features a fifteen year old boy by the name of Charley Goddard. His fantasy of war isn’t anywhere near the harsh reality the soldiers really have to live through. As the North begins to take the lead in the Civil War Charlie believes that he should join the Minnesota Volunteers because, ever since his father was killed by a fatal blow to the chest by a horse, he feels like he has to be the man of the house.
The book that I chose to read was all about the hidden secrets that the southern people keep. These secrets helped their southern town stay alive while also preserving the history. This book made me think of the south in a different way and it also made me realize that there is more than what meets the eye, especially in a small town. The book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, sparked my interest because of my deep love for the south, the mystery of the murder, and the description of the unique people found in Savannah Georgia.
Jeff’s Growth The protagonist of Rifle for Watie by Harold Keith, Jeff Bussey, is one of the many children who were forced to grow up too quickly due to the outbreak of the Civil War. In this historical fiction novel, Jeff is a sixteen year old boy eager to go off to war looking for adventure and excitement like many other boys from that time. Over time, however, Jeff experiences sickness, treachery, friendship, despair, and violence.

In the book, Rifles For Watie by Harold Keith, the character, Jeff Davis Bussey, shows an immense amount of character development; by the conclusion of the fifth chapter, Jeff is displaying a change in attitude, and an slightly altered personality due to underlying, and more obvious lessons learned by his experiences in the military. In the beginning of the book, bushwhackers harass, and attack the Davis family, after this predicament Jeff states “Pa, I want to go to Fort Leavenworth tomorrow and join the volunteers. ”(Ch. 2, Pg. 14)
Paul Barrett wrote about a discussion whether or not we should amend the second amendment. He used the words from a retired supreme court justice Paul Stevens to help justify the points on why we should amend it. The main points that came out are that the 2nd amendment was made for militias or the military to bear arms and didn’t let the federal government regulate weapons but only left it to the state governments. The right to bear arms is essentially not an unlimited one. As the country grows older the interpretation of the 2nd amendment changes as well.
In the Article James Wilson wrote “Just Take Away Their Guns” has continued to be the focus on gun control and is also debate that is currently viewed in many arguments today. Wilson points out that there are many people who would love to see guns taken away from citizens who should not feel they have the right to protect their homes and families from thieves. He also states that our government cannot protect us from assaults that are brought on by people who are hard criminals because that continues to fail innocent people. He also argues that only a small amount of criminals are walking into gun shops and purchasing guns for the wrong reasons. I do not agree with him at all because I feel that anyone who buys a large amount of weapons is
Ever since my great grandpa told me about it I have watched movies and played games about it. Though I have never really read books about it except for informational ones, This book might change that for me. It was a really interesting read and I’m glad you had our class read it. (Do you have any other war books that are good to read?)
The book I have chosen to review is Boy 21, a fictional read that is written by Matthew Quick. Quick is a New York Times best-selling author debuting in novels such as The Silver Linings Playbook and Love May Fail. To best describe this book, it is a captivating read that is comforting for the mind, as it canvasses the raw and unflinching life of a high school senior who displays love for basketball and life relationships. Furthermore, set in a troubled Belmont city of Philadelphia, Quick incorporates the presence of mobs and violence which is captivating towards the reader and audience. I was intrigued about how the novel was written through Finley the main protagonist, which was Quick’s childhood perspective of life in Philadelphia and his passion towards basketball.
My book report is on "Ender 's Game" by Orson Scott Card. Ender 's Game is a military sci-fi book that has received many awards. The author did continue the series on Ender, however the military aspect of it did not continue with the series. Ender Wiggins was only allowed to born so that he can save the human race from exstinction. Since birth he was a outcast, hated by his brother Peter, and constantly being hurt by everyone except his sister Valentine.
The book I chose to read for my book review was “ Killing Mr.Griffin”. It is about 5 high school students who hate their english teacher Mr. Griffin and come up with a plan to kidnap him. Their main purpose is to just torture and make Mr. Griffin think he is going to die. The plan takes a tragic turn and results in Mr. Griffin's death. The plan simply falls apart in a domino effect of terror and grief.
In modern society, guns are seen as a form of control. Those who have guns are able to overpower those who do not. This trend was set when guns were first invented and has stayed the same throughout history. The one place where guns are not a symbol of power and control is in literature, specifically “The Old Gun” and Hamilton. In Mo Yan’s short story “The Old Gun”, the protagonist is a hungry boy who does not even know how to use the titular firearm.
Moving on to the idea of nationalism, Ernest Gellner (1997) understood nationalism as a product of industrial society. He defines nationalism as “primarily a political principle, which holds that the political and national unit should be congruent” (Guibernau and Rex 1997: 52). Nationalism, Gellner says is either a product of feeling of anger when the principle discussed above is not fulfilled or a product of feeling of satisfaction aroused by its fulfilment. Therefore, “nationalism is a theory of political legitimacy” (Guibernau and Rex 1997: 52). Gellner justifies the repercussions of the idea of “nationalism is a theory of political legitimacy” by discussing how the political effectiveness of national sentiment impairs the sensibility of the nationalists to realise the wrong committed by the nation.
