This research study will be conducted in my usual classroom with the assistance of English teachers at my school. I believe the new Common Core assessments will force all teachers to focus more on reading and writing skills. Teachers must work together to ensure students can comprehend written text, analyze the text, and formulate written answers using induction and deduction. Students will have to know how to apply knowledge to solve extensive problems, such as a research task and/or in-depth math problems, instead of simply answering multiple choice questions from information obtained from rote memorization. This is precisely why I am so focused on increasing vocabulary comprehension since it is related to all content areas. In order to meet the demands of the new tests, we as teachers will have to consciously and purposely change our instruction to align with these new standards. In the end, if we educate students with the new Common Core standards in mind, which includes helping them to increase reading comprehension and specifically vocabulary comprehension, I believe they will be adequately prepared to meet the challenges they will face in the future.

Furthermore, I will welcome additional insight from English teachers at my school that may be able to inform me of specific vocabulary terms students have difficulty understanding since research proposes that vocabulary usage is an essential element in learning English language as well as a vital component in reading comprehension and specifically morphology can play a major role in increasing vocabulary knowledge for English language learners, which can also assist with reading comprehension (Pacheco & Goodwin,
