Common Core Educational Standards
Did you know that the U.S. ranks in the bottom quartile when compared to other countries educational systems? Student test scores have shown a substantial achievement gap. Numerous states have adopted the common core standards. These common core standards which is guide lines for principles and skills that should be learned at each grade level. Common Core State Standards create a clear and consistent guideline for what students should know in math and English from kindergarten through their senior year of high school. Common Core standards help prepare students for college, career, and life. Plus, the standards demonstrate what students are expected to learn during each grade level. Consistent academic standards help students reach higher levels of success.
The standards stand as a road map for a teacher’s instruction. The tension between standards and curriculum was recognized by the writers of the common core standards. The standards must be complemented by a content rich curriculum that is consistent with expectations. High quality education requires rigorous standards and great curriculum.
